Dwarves acting weird with their drinking habits
« on: July 18, 2010, 08:43:48 pm »

I have how many barrels of booze nearby.
I have a stream running right next to the topside of my fortress
I have a giant well in the center of my meetinghall marked as a water source.

But all of my dwarves are running all the way up to the north end of the map to drink water upstream.

What the hell.

Are the barrels of booze forbidden for some reason?

I have also had the problem where they randomly decide where they want to drink from.  The only thing I've found that consistently solves the problem is to remove access to their preferred watering hole.

I usually just floor it over.  You can, of course, simply divert the river through your dining hall, if you want to take the easy way out.

No, i checked to see if the barrels were restricted and there were none.
It's gotten so bad, a mother with her newborn went to the edge of the map for a drink and a goddamn goblin nabbed her baby...
Goddammit.

The only thing i could think of is traffic, barrels forbidden, they are for some reason unable to reach the booze (locked door?), and that is about it.

I was thinking more along the lines of this legendary champion, all clad in dented and dinged up steel plate, his blood-drenched axe slung over his back, a notch in the handle for every enemy that saw the swing of that blade as the last sight they ever saw, a battered shield strapped over his arm... and a fluffy, pink stuffed hippo hidden discretely in his breastplate.

It could also potentially be that the barrels are not forbidden, but the booze INSIDE the barrels is.  Easiest way to check is to look at your stocks.  *shrug*

Very strange, though, that they won't drink booze if they can get to it and it's not forbidden.  The restricted areas (aka burrows) could also potentially be it, as someone suggested.  Did you check that?

Only one dwarf can drink from a barrel at a time, and it takes a surprisingly long time for them to do so.  You might not have enough barrels of booze on hand.  Make more, lots more.  Make a few more wells while you're at it too.

Do you have enough variety of booze? I've known dwarves who would rather drink water than the same old drink for the 4th time or so.
