Massive failure, then I mod the offender
« on: July 09, 2010, 06:40:59 pm »

My current Genesis+my tweaks modded fort just had a Massive failure: a hydra (might as well have been a dragon, they're pretty similar) came.
Squad 1, ten metal-armor dwarves, waits at our entrance for it. Squads 2 and 3 are losers who fail to wear any armor and never pick up weapons. They are willing to die in battle too.

The seven-headed eight-wagons-sized hydra came. And got caught in a wooden cage trap. Armok wept and cursed the heavens!

And so my worlds came to have megabeasts that ignore all puny traps.

You mean wait for a siege and let a chained hydra have all the fun?
Of course one could embark with low-cost war red dragons. Hmm. Sounds interesting.

Or 100x faster war rabbits. With wings. And Marble plating (copied from the Gargoyles) instead of skin. Yeah, small gargoyle demigods on leashes.

Vorpal bunnies!

Badass, and the enemy still has the embarrassment of dying to a bunny.

Or just make the hydra tamable and trainable.

Then wait for another one and have a breeding pair.

While I'm not sure exactly, it seems (and my testing so far confirms) that animals will only breed if they were already capable of doing so at world gen. I've experimented with adding relevant tags to existing species to get them to breed, and haven't succeeded. Others in my thread at the time could not help either. My current fort is also thusly failing.
