Dwarven nuclear power treatise
« on: July 09, 2010, 05:03:40 pm »

So iv been thinking about the creation of a dwarven reactor there have been many joking posts about this and half formed ideas but no actualization. the basic idea is to have an infinate water supply being pumped into a small chamber with some kind of massively hot object in it (extra points if its modded pitchblende). now in my testing i have figured out that stone and similar objects with a high fixed temp don't retain that temp when constructed into buildings which prevents the creation of a room with a super hot floor. other methods include: a creature (like the sof in 40d they would vaporize water within a few tiles of themselves) a tree? (the nether cap tree in the new version has a fixed temp but im not sure whether that only applys to the wood or the tree too) and a boulder or similar object dumped in the middle of the room. the basic design calls for a 4x4 room with a heat source with water being fed into it to generate steam. if anybody has any ideas or concepts please submit them. once i have decided i will construct the prototype and test its feasability and of course PROFIT.  8)

Same way the fire starter workshop works.

Just up the temperature by a very large amount.

Activating the reactor will likely vaporize the dwarf who turns it on.

of course it will  :) iv tried modding in a stone with a melt/boil temp of 99999999 and a fixed temp of 30000 i even built the workshop out of another material with the same melt/boil temp but all it does is produce an object called magma and then deconsruct the workshop

Need a massively hot object? Try setting a blizzard man, a zombie, or a skeleton on fire. Once one of them gets going, it will burn forever.

The same might also apply to whatever other nonstandard creatures there are (specifically, ones that can't die due to blood loss).

[INORGANIC:DORFNIUM]
[USE_MATERIAL_TEMPLATE:STONE_TEMPLATE]
[STATE_NAME_ADJ:ALL_SOLID:dorfnium][DISPLAY_COLOR:4:7:0][TILE:'*']
[IS_STONE]
[SPEC_HEAT:100000]
[MAT_FIXED_TEMP:30000]
[MELTING_POINT:NONE]
[BOILING_POINT:NONE]

I have heard that you can get the physics engine to blink if you cover a steel box of coal blocks with magma.

It will burn forever and vaporize all water that touches it for the rest of the game.   I have never actually tried this mind you, but this is what I read on the wiki.

any object that is on fire will burn forever if contained in somthing and i finaly got the system to work i used the coal mineral from warlord's bonfire mod but i uped the temp to 30000 and the desity to 10000000 so it would burn forever then i made a reaction that created 20 of them and 40 coke in a smelter. all you need to do is build a smelter in a small room with some doors hooked up to a lever suplying infinate water.
