Dwarves afraid of caged undead

I have some caged zombie buzzards, and all my dwarves appear to be afraid of them.  I can't even get the cages unbuilt or hooked up to a lever because the dwarves just run away in fear every time they approach the cages.  Right now, I just want to get rid of these annoying birds.  What can I do?

You could pump magma over the cages if they aren't magma-safe. You could create a cave-in over the cages to destroy them outright.
