Ah. That is why you must first make sure the Colossus is not moving! A good way to do this is to stand next to a tree and wait for the Colossus charge you. Quickly jump out of the way and as the colossus slams into the tree he will fall over. Now before he gets up grab his nose! This is how you obtain the gift.

Despite the similarities...the Bronze Colossus ain't a Buddha statue, despite both being in complete zen.

...Though one of them tends to give enlightenment through it's fists.

I've actually managed to sever the head of one Bronze Colossus with a Masterwork Adamantine Two-Handed Sword. Perhaps steel greataxes work, but only dwarves make steel, and I never seem to find one equipped with a greataxe. I suppose I could make one in fortress mode, but that feels kinda like cheating.

In any case, if anyone just wants to Deus ex Machina it, you could get DFHack and just encase the fucker in obsidian. Spawn lava on it and water next to it. Profit! Worked well enough for me, even with freezing weather.

The dwarven gods were pissed at those colossi; it was bound to happen sooner or later!

The one I've always wanted to try is finding a sheer cliff, and letting the BC charge me, sending both of us hurtling to our doom. Okay, my doom, since the BC probably won't die, but you get the picture.

If you can find a cliff you can kill the collosus. Just dodge its charges.
