It would make more seeds easier to remember. How many numbers you usually keep memorized? You phone number, zip code, maybe some passport or similar document series and number, but there aren't usually a lot. You can remember quite a lot more names, and you can make much more personal worlds with alphanumeric seeds, for example for yourself, your family, your town, your country, your planet, your favorite movies, your least favorite movies, etc, etc.

The number of phone numbers I have memorized is staggering.  It's not up to par with my vocabulary, but really --

Why are you using such simple things?  The odds of the most interesting worlds being on seeds that are so tidy are extremely low.  I don't go entering random numbers for this reason, I just take note of seeds that generated interesting worlds, and use those later.

Not that any list is going to be useful in just a day or two  =p

That's given me the mental image of huge distributed computing networks, cranking out seed after seed after seed's worth of worlds, looking for the 'perfect one'  (Think SETI at home)

Haha, that would be kinda cool, but really disturbing.  Toady should develop an extra tool that can be run in the background that runs a world-gen using networked computing power -- have the dimensions be 1000x the current largest world size -- and see what happens.

Many.  Physical constants are important to engineers...and nerds...and nerds in engineering.
