Megaproject: The Righteous Volcano

I'm trying to build a castle in a lake of lava, and need to know - how fast does the magma sea refill? Also, can "magma flow" tiles generated through unnatural means (digging a ramp in an unrevealed SMR tile) spawn magma?

magma respawns very slowly, really slowly. That is gonna cause some problems to this project, though i think it would be possibe if you pump from the magma sea at the bottem of your map. To make the distance to it smaller gen a world witouth cavern layers, way less z level so pump up ;)

I figure I can use magma-unsafe drawbridges linked with magma-unsafe mechanisms to fill the lake in sections, lowering/melting the bridges to the next part when the current one is full and the magma sea can support the filling.

Embark on a volcano and tap it from the bottom when you're ready to start flooding. There's a ton of magma in there, and the massive reserve plus gravity will keep your pumps full.
