Having enemy (and allied?) siegers bring a miner with them to get through whatever fortifications you might have has been mentioned.   My sugestion is this: The miners be given a military designation "Sappers" and can be trained in that skill, like a marksdwarf or a swordsdwarf etc. It would be quite intereseting to build yourself a veritable Masada on top of the mountain only to have enemy sappers undermine the mountain and have it come crashing down, nobly sacrificing their lives.

Or preferably rigging the mountain to collapse  and then hightailing it out of their before someone pulls the lever.

You can already rig collapses with trapped pillars and stuff.  

Toady said he's wary about gunpowder so I dunno if detonation charges'll be viable.

The problem is needing a 7x7 room supported by a pilliar before it'll work.  I'd like to see the same kind of effect on narrower hallways.
Mines collapsed when not properly shored up and they are only 6 feet wide.
