Jeweler won't recognize gems for gem cutting?
« on: June 14, 2010, 12:18:41 am »

Topic says it all, sorry if this is the wrong section.

In a fort I've recently embarked on, I found several sections of exposed gems and managed to mine a few veins while building my initial fortress level. I made a Jeweler's Workshop, but whenever I input the cut command for any of the 4 gems on my list, the command is immediately cancelled because there's no material to work with. This comes even after I've gathered all the gems on the map and put them in a stockpile.

Just as well, the dwarf in question that was supposed to be doing the gem cutting is just standing there in the workshop with 'No Job' listed. Not even moving or going over to the meeting hall. :| Is there a way to bypass this? It's one of my main options for fortress wealth, unless I want everything smooth as a baby's arse.

Did you accidentally put him in a burrow or something?

That Gem Cutter didn't happen to be part of the military at some time and do some training did he?

Congrats, Psieye. This is the first time I've seen a derailed thread get put back on the rails.

Sorry! I dug out a 3x3 hollow with the exit on the right side, so the Jeweler couldn't even make it out to the stockpile. :X

Problem solved!

Yeah, that's a common problem with jeweler's workshops.

Toady, how much of DF is inspired by Labyrinth? Is Armok actually David Bowie? Because that would simultaneously be disturbing and awesome.
