1. Stick the cable into the laptop.
2. Apply duct tape
3. Watch as the charging continues.
4. Celebrate your new desktop computer!

1. Find trailer park
2. Drive around until someone throws out a computer
3. Grab
4. Install new HD
5. Celebrate your new desktop computer (which smells like a burning tobacco field).

1. Find trailer park
2. Drive around until someone throws out a computer
3. Grab
4. Take to geeksquad and get them to make it work
5. Steal the data stored on the hard drive
6. Sell data and/or blackmail original owners
7. Buy a brand new, $2000 laptop. With $1000 left over for extra chargers.
8. Invest $10000 of savings in BP stock so as to satisfy karma

That's what happened to mine, the tip came out. With half the rubber of it.
That's when I got this universal one, which broke (with no visible cause, so it was replaced for free.)

Now it's bent. I'll probably get a replacement tip if possible. If not, the duct tape idea sounds good :P
I pretty much always have it plugged in anyways.

A little bit of electrical tape can fix it easily.

When the tip comes out, if you cut away the casing, you'll notice that one wire will have a little bit of solder on the tip. This wire goes on the metal outside of the tip, and the other wire ONLY touches the little tag of metal sticking out from the back of the tip. Put enough electrical tape on it, and it'll hold for a good amount of time, though it isn't a perfect fix, and you need to make sure that you don't tug on it, etc.

You think that's bad; I was pulling out my larger hard drive's SATA cord out from under the new graphics card and it looked like I shredded the connector.

A bit of MacGuyvering with some tweezers to realign all the nodes and push them back into place in the plastic casing (a tad flimsy if hit with enough force), it worked fine after I reconnected it in a better spot/SATA receiver. I don't think bending it back should cause much harm. If it's solid metal, it shouldn't do any wrong if bent back into place. I learned that with the SATA. The plastic casing was to make sure it remained aligned in the right spots. And believe me, SATA cords/fibers are far thinner and unruly to work with.

That looks rather broad. As long as it's straight enough, it should work fine at more angels if realigned. A simple knock should do well enough. Just hit it with the right force with a dense enough flat object. It should do the job just fine.

It's easy to fix. Go to an electronics store and buy a new tip. The clerk should be able to help you figure out which to use. Then cut off the bent one and solder on the new one, takes about five minutes. If you don't know how to solder, most places that sell teh supplies will do the work for a small fee.

I can solder, I'd just need to borrow an iron from my uncle/dad.

Then it's pretty simple. Just make sure you get the polarity right and you'll have no trouble. My TCS laptop charger went through five tips before the motherboard died.

In all seriousness, learn to solder. Oftentimes manufacturers purposely make minor cables and such easily breakable so that you'll drop another $5 for a replacement.
