Open Source Game Competition - Let the Voting Begin
« on: June 23, 2010, 03:24:34 pm »

We've held nominations for the past 2 weeks, and have no collected 62 nominations for the best open source games on the net.

I'm new to this forum, but I thought, given the general topic of discussion, some of you may wish to participate.

Voting for the best open source game on the web has begun. We've broken the list down into 10 genres. Vote on the art, innovation, storyline, and overall gaming experience to decide what games from the 10 genres will go head to head in the final round.

I'll post some results every day so you can see how the games stack up.

FWIW, try actually participating in the community before you come here to advertise.

Apologies, but I thought the community might be interested and I just found it today. It's hard enough to not come across as a spambot. The reason I linked to the worldki site, which I haven't done prior, is because the usual response involves a flaming about the point of the contest and what it's value actually is.

Again, I apologize for giving an air of intrusion into the community, but I don't see another way of getting the message out immediately. If you have an idea , I'd be glad to hear it, as I've been posting on various gaming community forums and have about 20 more nominees to alert.

Thanks,
samuel

For here, play Dwarf Fortress and contribute to a thread or two that's relevant to your interests.

That's the only real credibility you need to post 'round here. Despite best intentions, showing up with your first post being an advertisement will usually be read as spam, even if it's nicely worded spam.

Yes, though I don't want to come across as dishonest if the only purpose of my posting in other forums is to gain the trust of the community so I can point them to my original goal. It feels... deceptive. In short, I feel like I'm having to pick between two evils.

Thoughts?

Don't be in such a rush to self-promote. :P

I dont think it's particularily wrong, or inadequate. This is an independent game forum. It's not open source, but it's not too incoherent to assume that the people here might well be interested in other independent games.

And sticking around to respond to replies is always a good way of seeming less like a spammer and more like someone with something to share.

He has answered once. Surely you don't expect him to stick 24 hours a day waiting for our comments.

Specially given the reception so far :p

Anyway, it's also a forum about liberal crime squad, which toady realized and released open source.
