Magma forge vs metalsmith's forge
« on: June 09, 2010, 10:45:27 am »

Hello,

I didnt see any of the metalsmith forge tasks use up my coal reserves, so is there any advantage to use the magma version?

thanks,

Metalsmith forges definitely use fuel, the advantage of using a magma forge is that the magma acts as fuel itself eliminating the need for coal or coke. However making steel or pig iron from magma smelters still requires a unit of fuel, if I remember correctly.

Are you sure your dwarven smiths aren't taking from the fuel pile when they craft items at the forge?

Which tasks? Forging weapons/armour/furniture needs fuel, studding doesn't. Also, were you looking at your bit. coal reserves or coke/charcoal reserves?

(using 40d) actually i looked at weapons and armor using charcoal. guess i missed something then. in fact i get the feeling they were making crafts n stuff without using charcoal since i didnt have any. switched to magma "just in case" anyways. and i didnt see the wiki mention anything about fuel usage for metalsmith forge either.
