MOEBIUS

I love moebius but all is work (bar Arzach) is out of print and really expensive collectors stuff.

Also i 2nd Il Palazzo's Manga recommendations Akira is so so good, and Blame, and Nausicaa.

Manga is generally much better value for money than western comics. £5 gets you 100 pages typically in manga, and about 30 in western comics

Still, 99% of manga sucks terribly. Both in terms of it's repetitive plot and art style.

That's what CBRs are for.

I've got issues 1-10 of Fables now, thank you Pathos. I haven't had time to read them yet, but they look interesting. Sort of, old fairy tales meeting the 21st century. At least that's what it looks like at first glance. The cover art is also really damn awesome.

I've just finished the fourth Watchmen comic and boy is it incredible, the way the story in both the third and fourth issues is tied together is amazing (Using the bits of comic the boy is reading, and jumping around time in the Doc's memories). Those quotes Moore adds at the end add quite a bit to the feeling you get when you put the comic away.

I thought that was pretty impressive.

I can't wait for issue 5 to come out.

That's not really issue 4 in a nutshell, by the way. You forgot all the important parts.

That is the same situation as with movies, music, books, everything that is made not only to make art but also because you want money. It is not fault of the manga - there are beautiful stories.

what are CBRs? are they scan format, as ive found a few things like that, but little to know Moebius. I know theres Moebius scans on a number of torrent websites, but for various reasons im not currently torrenting.

also i prefer looking at paper to a screen

CBRs and CBZs are for most intents and purposes RAR and ZIP archives respectively.
You can change every .rar or .zip extension to .cbr/.cbz and vice versa, and the only difference you'll see is that one will get open by winzip or somesuch, while the other by a specialised comic reader program(if you've got one installed).
But you can just extract the thing and use your generic picture viewer instead.

I do second the sentiment that having an actual book in my hands is much preferable to reading scans.

I need to get my hands on something by Moebius one of those days. I know only Incal, and even that barely so.

Reading comics on screen as cbr is nice if you can rotate your screen to fit the page (I have, and it works nicely), but it's still nothing like the real thing...

I feel the same way about books, sadly, you just can't find certain comics anymore.

I prefer .cbr/.cbz's because they're free (:P), don't need a light to read, and you can turn the pages by pressing one button. Same reasons I prefer .pdf's to physical copies.

I'm guessing this is where the comic gets its name name

I thought it came from "Who watches the watchmen?"

Wikipedia article about it.
