Walking over Stockpiles
« on: June 08, 2010, 07:46:33 pm »

Is there any negative effect of having almost every empty area of your fort being a stockpile? Does it slow the dwarfs down, does it have a bad effect on my barrels of rum, anything? The only thing I can think of is it looks bad but that is barely an excuse to not use the space.

Nope. It's just really, really ugly.

Some very minor ones.

1. If your food stockpiles are spread out too much, your verminhunters won't be able to efficiently police them.

2. Likewise for not having centralised materials stockpiles for workshops.

3. If you do it on mud, it stops trees growing there.

Number 2 is a good point I think I'm going to start chaining up cats with my food supplies. Sounds like a good idea.

You shouldn't chain them up unless you want one every 3 tiles staggered throughout the entire stockpile. And then there's a massive risk of uncontrollable catsplosions.
Just allow one(1) cat to roam freely. trap and kill the other cats somehow, even the pets, and all the children. it is your only hope.

It's worth noting that by "all the children", Eric probably means "all the kittens". Probably.

My guess is he got it right the first time.
