Overheated water hydrolyzing? Randomized controlled double-blind trial or it is not true.
AFAIK when water meets magma (actually the opposite, like volcanic lava going into the sea) the boiling water soldfies the stone around it forming very low-density pumice and similar stones, some of them are so bubbly and have so much air they even FLOAT in water.

I really want that one as a "when". I want "grubs", and "virgin woman" to turn into a dragon. and monkey children to suddenly sprout wings. And I want the Dwarven Mutant Academy to only gain their powers upon reaching puberty. I also have a whole host of odd creatures that only make sense if I divide them into children and adults.

Also, tadpoles.

It depends on the composition of the magma and how it enters the ocean. Pillow lava off the shore if Hawaii, for example, is fairly dense.
