Dwarves go outside

Hi there,
Where has the 'dwarves go outside' option gone? I really need to keep them inside, they've got everything they need.

No, I'd rather not use burrows, as I'd just want a single large irregularly shaped burrow, which would be a huge pain to designate and would need to be expanded all the time due to digging. I just want inside/outside fixed, please, please please!

Any help; massively appreciated!

Its not gone, its just been change and its used in conjunction with burrows. The crappy inside command has been replace with something with more functionality.

Here are three easy steps, define a burrow where you want your dwarfs to go to with route to closing the entrance off to the outside world. Then go to the military screen, then press <a> and create a new alert, and have dorfs go to the newly created burrow. Then close the entrance to the outside world.

You may or may not need to make an air lock system for caravans.

Thank you! That was very helpful. Question about the caravan airlock - if the innmost gates are closed, will the caravan come as close as possible, into the airlock, so that I can close the outmost gates and open the inner ones? I thought that if there was no path, they just sat around being annoyed at you?

How I would do it:

W=Wall
+=Floor
X=Floodgate
T=Trade Depot
S=Stairs

On a level below this would be your tradegood stockpiles, and two levers. The first one would open the trade depot to the outside world so that the caravan can path to it. The second lever would be to unlock the stairs to the trade deopt, after the trade depot area is locked again.

The stairs can be blocked via flood gates or floor hatches.
