So i embarked in a temperate savannah and everything is covered with snow? The river is frozen so i cant make farms until it thaws. Hopefully it'll thaw...

Nah, not a glitch. You embark on the first day of spring; or to put it another way, the day after the last day of winter, so it's not surprising there's still snow on the ground. Things should thaw out shortly.

In temperate climates the temperature is usually below freezing for at least a few days every year.

With cold its a longer portion of the year, usually about half the year.

Frozen is frozen all year round.
