I'm curious as to the order of priority in the directions. EG. You have one block of solid dirt, and 8 squares of floor around it, so if the block was to be mined what is the order directions are assessed as possibilities? In my experience it goes West-East-North-South-Bankx4. I've no clue as to the order of diagonals.

It's known in 40d.  It has obviously changed for buildings; I'm not sure about for mining.
