Water trap

I want to make one of those water traps on the DFwiki (Here) but I don't get how to make the open spaces. Is it just channelling out that whole space and removing the ramps?

Yup. Be careful NOT to collapse the floor under your feet if you are scraping floors with nothing underneath.
