New Comp!
« on: May 29, 2010, 07:08:20 pm »

A few minutes ago my dad surprised me with his backup computer (he trades stocks)! This thing beats the heck out of my old Pentium 4 machine.

While its not top of the line in any regards, it is still nice for me.

Intel Core 2 CPU 6300 @1.86 1.86
3.25gb of ram
ATI Radeon HD 5700 1gb of memory

It also has 2 hard-drives that my dad said are hooked up on RAID and super fast, one has only the operating system, the other for all my stuff. Apparently this improves performance? I can't wait to try ETW on this  :D

RAID arrays will increase read/write performance but to be honest, consumer PCs have no real need of it.
It's certainly not going to affect games that much.

And what you describe in the second half of that sentence:
Quote
one has only the operating system, the other for all my stuff
Is not even possible under a RAID array.

So either A) You don't have a RAID array or B) You have a partitioned RAID array. (Never heard of anyone partitioning a RAID personally, but I guess it's possible...)
If B) if it's a striped array, if either of those drives fails, everything's gone, and if it's a mirrored array, you're wasting space.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Stock trading sounds pretty cpu/graphic intensive!

Are you sure that's a RAID array? one of those statements are wrong.  Either way, RAID is not that useful to your average joe unless you really really don't want to lose data.

It also probably won't run ETW because the game is poorly designed.

For those less technologically knowledged who don't know RAID, here's what the acronym means and the two levels mentioned here(there are more, but am lazy)...

RAID: Redundant Array of Independent Disks
RAID 0,Striped: Data is split between the two
Advantages: Faster
Disadvantages: Your data is spread over two different Hard drives, either of which may fail and void all data.

RAID 1, mirroring: Two Hard Drives, two copies of information.
Advantages: Safer, since if either of your HDs fail, you still have your data intact
Disadvantages: have to buy two hard drives, not faster.
