Family Trees
« on: February 06, 2008, 05:26:00 am »

Well now that there are family trees in Dwarf Fortress, the next obvious thing to do would be to make them viewable in Legends mode.  Actually, I don't yet know if they aren't but it seems like it would take a bit of working on, so I'm guessing the aren't yet.  :p

Of course this also seems like something Toady already thought of.  Well we can still discuss it.

I could suggest a weird notion, though other people have, no doubt, expressed it somewhere (I can't be as smart as I think I am, can I?). With the game actually having information on all the creatures and individuals stored, why not take them for use in adventure mode and fort mode, rather than generating them "out of thin air"? For example, you tell the game "I want to be a human from Karagom", and the game picks you a human from Karagom, allows you to substitute his name for something else, choose him skills, and sends you off. This way you could have family you could relate to, for example. In fort mode, it would do exactly the same, but to a group of creatures. Nice, realistic, and you get backstories for everyone you play.
