Temple Suggestions
« on: February 06, 2008, 12:47:00 am »

You can build a temple to any dwarven deity in your world.

Dwarves all worship their own deities so, when you build a temple to Avuz...

"Feb Arrowportals", Woodworker
He is a worshipper of Avuz. He was happy to have a temple built to his deity lately. He prayed at his deity's temple lately.

"Meng Pastedyes", Engraver
She is an ardent worshipper of Limul. She was upset that a rival deity had a temple built lately. She refuses to worship at another deity's temple. She is on break permanently until a temple to her deity is built.

"Zulban Lancedgraves", Engraver
He is a casual worshipper of Avuz. He liked having a temple built to his deity lately. He prayed at a temple to his deity lately.

"Dodok Tradeshimmered", Miner
She is a casual worshipper of Buzat. She was mildly unhappy that a temple to another deity was built.

Guards could also arrest and imprison workers who refuse to work when their deities do not have temples built.

I don't see player built temples being a single building, but rather a designated room.   Thuswise you can design your own.

This would also allow factioning when your fort starts to go down the tubes, opening the way for a far more interesting civil war.

I think having temples has a designated room would be great.

(Possibility of a high priest turning up and mandating things to go into the temple? Broze statue for god of bronze etc? )

I was thinking of temples as like a bed, you build it and then you resize the room space. Except workshop size so people can pray at it.

Like an altar?  That would be nice.

MyLittlePonyBuiltMyHotRod, this is your first warning. I would like to direct you to read our forum's FAQ and posting guidelines before posting again. Specifically we don't use swear words here, and your picture of Stalin riding a Year3 Limited Edition Starflower inside a German concentration camp was both upsetting and historically inaccurate.

Sounds good.  It may also be good to have some of the temples not be consitered one until it has a certain feature.

  • Volcanos, Fire; Needs access to magma or lava somewhere in the temple area.
  • Fishing, rivers, lakes, fish, ect.; Needs water access in the temple.  Rivers and lakes temple must be freshwater.
  • Sky, Hunting, Sun,ect.: Must be at least 50% outside and listed as above ground.
  • Sacrifice, Blood, Death, War: A creature must be killed at least once a year within the temple.  Butcher workshops do not count. In the case of war it must be an aggressive.

That's what a designated space means.

As for specific features, that might be annoying to do- but could be fun.

I can imagine a dwarf killing another dwarf of opposing religion, causing all dwarves in that religion to turn on that dwarf, resulting in...

One religion left standing. I can also imagine religious bias (guards taking sides, not arresting people of same religion, reduced punishments for having same religion)

Butcher workshops do not count? Or how about this: Just like you can build cages and chains and then use them for Justice instead of making a zoo... you can build a Butcher's Workshop and then set it to be used for Worship instead of food. For a war god the high priest might mandate cage traps to be placed...
