Hey,  fort is going well and i realy dont want to abandon it but i cant figure a way to stop a problem im having,  about every 10 seconds the game is pauseing to inform me that the ant people have named a shield.  its happened about 50 times now and im not sure whether it will ever stop?

i cant evan see where any of this is happening, the screen jumps to location but it is 20 levels down and way north of my fortress, completly un explored
shows as just black but im guessing theres a cavern system or something going on there

Data --> Init --> Announcements
remove the P:R from the ITEM_NAMED line.  I think that should be the right line. 

or just head down there and beat them into paste, I guess.

An antman is fighting a forgotten beast down there, and has named his shield, and keeps renaming it every time it saves his life. This sort of thing has happened before.

They do actually carry three shields each, too.

It's just a pity that they have such short lifespans.

Yes, it would be worthwhile to explore down there and find out the name of your antman. I believe antmen are friendly, so he might make a valuable goblin-fodder for you someday.

Once an animal-man has gained a name from killing enough creatures that one becomes friendly. So you will probably have to kill the other ones to get to him. And then send in the goblins!
