I thought this was an interesting take on the idea of a roguelike - there's combat, but it's more focused on puzzles which usually let you avoid fighting. I managed to finish it, but I had a bunch of items I never found a use for, so I suspect there's an alternate ending, although maybe that hasn't been implemented yet.
Tips:
Wielding a bone is better than attacking barehanded.
You can kick palm trees to get coconuts. Throwing coconuts at things is usually much better than attacking them in melee. Throwing skulls and bones works well too.
Your HP doesn't regenerate unless you're at least slightly drunk. You only start with one bottle of rum, but you can find more.
Spoilers/Walkthrough (It's way more fun to figure it out yourself though):
You can wear patches of grass. If you wear 20, you'll become a grass man and the ogres in the cave won't attack you any more. There are lots available around the hut area.
There's a cave in the mountains that has the same character (^) as a normal mountain and doesn't announce its presence when you step on it. You need to go there.
You can get the small key at the bottom of the cave without dying by replacing it with the golden idol (use the idol on the key before you pick it up)
The key unlocks the lighthouse. You need to get the wagon wheel from the entrance and the lantern from the top of it.
With the lantern, it'll be easier to find the chest in the forest, although you can use the light of the monsters to find it too. The chest has the big key in it. The big key opens the big door in the mountains.
In the pirate cave, you'll start to find pieces of a pirate outfit. Once you have them all, remove your grassman outfit and you should become a pirate.
There's a grue cave near the bottom of the pirate cave. With your lantern it should be easy, but you can also get through by throwing coconuts at their glowing eyes.
When you finally meet the pirates, make sure you're wearing your disguise and they won't attack you. Go down to the next level and you'll find their captain.
Swap the steering wheel with the wagon wheel like you did with the idol and key.
Go back to the pirate ship and use the steering wheel on it.
So, has anyone found a use for rupees or the piece of wire?
