Being an MMORPG doesn't instantly make a game a WoW clone though, and WoW clone itself is a pretty loaded phrase with no real meaning- considering a lot of elements WoW capitalizes off of are taken wholesale from other games.   This is counting both gameplay mechanics, style, etc.

a) As it was said i wasn't talkinkg about setting, but the mechanics.
b) I agree that lots of WOW elements have offspring in other games, but all so called clones are based on WOW itself. Or at least i have such vision, that every time someone tries to make a new mmorpg they look at WOW and sais lets make it like this and try to make something different.

Having certain elements, taken from WoW is awesome - the attention to detail Blizz pays in its games is ridiculous. With that said, they don't really seem to know what they are doing with that, as we discussed, incredible foundation. That's why the most enjoyable time, spent in WoW for me, was the firts 6 or so months. Then came the ridiculous lore pillaging, the bizarre mechanic changes, the PvE focus...

Being a WoW clone is the straightest, shortest road to failure. No wow clone, ever, in the history of this universe, can compete with WoW. People aren't playing the original because it's so much fun, they're mostly playing it because their friends are there. Since no clone can really take people away from the archetype, no-one's going to even bother trying it, because all his or her friends are still playing WoW. Clean and simple, like a politian after a bath :)

This mythical 40K mmo is certainly going to have elements from wow in it, there is just no doubt in that. What we, as sensible players tired of the same mountainous piles of grind, can hope for, is that THQ or whoever is making it can realise when the time has come to just stop stealing ideas, and apply a little bit of innovation.

Or else we'll be set for another 4 or 5 WoW expansions adding new continents and new items with increasingly stupefying stats.

What a strange and beautiful world I beheld, but dangerous too, I was certain. And I was friendless and homeless. And so I prayed.
"Hear me, exalted spirits. Hear me be you gods or devils, ye who hold dominion here. I am a wizard without a home. I am a wanderer seeking refuge."
