That was both odd, and somewhat infuriating
« on: May 14, 2010, 06:49:29 pm »

So, found out why all my dwarves wandered down into the mines to waste time muscling past each other.

Apparently one of the stupid elf merchants got turned around and decided the best way out was the depths of the mines.  Something or other down there got him - there was a recent wave of trolls so thats a good guess.  Having not realized this though my dwarves were trying to move his vast haul of worthless wooden plunder.  This being one of the elf merchants carrying an impossible amount of goods.

Many, many, many forbid pages later I think its solved.  But this was definitely a new one for me.

Forbid ... pages? You do know about (d)esignate->(b)->(f) for mass-forbidding, right? And if not, you should, it'll save you a hell of a lot of work in the future, especially for cases like this when the dwarves decide to rush headlong into a battlefield to get a fallen comrade's sock.

I think he means pages of something like:

Urist McRetard cancels place item in stockpile: Item forbidden

Once I had a dwarven guard from one of the caravans do something awesomely badass... he somehow managed to get down into the underground lake I used for fishing. He jumped in (in full armor!) and started swimming around, killing all the pond grabbers! He eventually got them all, but drowned shortly after.

'He detests pond grabbers for their annoying attacks'
