Using Magma to Pierce Aquifers
« on: May 13, 2010, 04:04:43 pm »

So that technique is fairly simple for breaching a single layer aquifer, but is it feasible to use it to go through a double aquifer layer, or should I stick to finding a vein of ore?

Yes, magma can breach milti-layer aquifers. However, you need to take into account that the dimensions of the area you obsidianize will shrink every level.

Yep, it works. On the top aquifer layer, you need to dig out a (2*n + x) by (2*n +y) space, where n is the number of aquifer layers, and x and y are the maximum dimensions of the rooms cut through the aquifer. Each layer down you dig out a smaller area, like an upside-down pyramid.
