Using Dropbox?
« on: May 11, 2010, 07:06:25 pm »

Anyone else get the idea to use Dropbox as your folder to launch df from?  I play the same game at home and at school through.  It's pretty nifty!  Sorry if this is a repost!

Oh, huh, I'd never thought of this.

I do have a dropbox folder so, hey, why not?

Keep in mind that the files will need to be synchronized every time you save the game. However, with the new save compression active (it is by default), this shouldn't be a big deal.

Not a bad idea, really. You might even be able to use this to run succession games more easily, although it's less secure ("I thought it was my week this week!").

New compression my foot.
This is the same compression we've always had, we just now have the option to turn it OFF.

All I do is just save the game, exit.  Wait for dropbox to upload and sync and then shut down.  You gotta wait for it to sync, otherwise it wont populate to all your dropbox accounts. (this happened to me once)

Would make succession games easier too.  Just make a shared DF folder.

I still don't think I'm crazy enough to play this game properly.

As long as the resolution can be handled by both monitors... (has a 22" monitor and sharing a game with a friend with a 19" - had to send over a different ini file for his folder with the right resolution/grid ratio settings XD). But lowest common denominator would make that a non-issue.

Hellcannon seemed to be constantly on the verge of death and Levergedon before my turn helped, but ultimately what killed it was Ledi's cat army.

Once the merge is done that will be a nonissue anyway.

No, it won't, because (as far as I know) the minimum grid size of 80x25 still applies. Of course, if you can zoom out, that might be mitigated, but machine-rescaled tilesets tend to look awful anyway.

Granted, the person currently playing the succession game can always just edit the init file himself, just like he would when playing it the way things are currently done, or swap it out for his own. You'd need to do this for some degree anyway, since some init file settings alter the way the game plays, in a manner that everyone would have to previously agree on to begin with.

I use NTFS junction points to just keep the /data/save folder synched between my desktop and my laptop.  That way I can have different keybindings on them or I could have different graphic settings.
