That actually was fun
« on: May 12, 2010, 09:05:19 pm »

Although I got stomped pretty hard by the latest army of vile darkness, it was pretty cool seeing the oddball mounts the goblins had.  Giant olms, voracious cave crawlers, even a jabberer.

And it was the mounts that mowed through my war animals with little effort.  I was actually doing well against the gobbos.

I believe war animals have been nerfed quite a bit (probably because having war bears was too cool to actually be useful)
try traps or actually putting out a sizable army, individual training works fine to buff up their skills.  Otherwise, glad you're having fun losing.

Losing is fun when it's fair game and you've made mistakes/were thoroughly swamped. :)

I always seem to be destroyed by cataclysmic bugs in 2010. 40D16 was acceptably destructive with orcs to compete against.

I had a somewhat fun experience like that too, but with a kolbold ambush and a population of one...

I wasn't relying on the war animals although I have a ton.  War everything: leopards, elephants, gorillas (although not nearly as many as the dogs).

I have two ok squads that were doing ok against the gobbos.  Most were macemen and a couple crossbow (them I mean, I have mostly axedwarves).  The damn mounts just tore through everything like they weren't even there.  The stack of war animal corpses was impressive before they moved on to the dwarves.

I just wonder where the goblins come from that they have such a wonderous and terrifying array of mounts  :D
