Marking caged animals for execution.
« on: May 14, 2010, 09:55:59 am »

I was thinking executions could be an entertaining way to empty your animal stockpiles without going through the bureaucracy of setting up death traps. Execution would work just like Dumping, except instead of being thrown out, a member of the Fortress Guard or the Hammerer takes a marked creature out of its cage and brutally beats it to death. There could even be specially designated zones for this, where nobles could show up to brighten their miserable lives with 'attending execution'. At the very least, executions would give the Hammerer purpose other than to molest your dwarves.

I'd definitely like this.  It's a lot simpler than contriving an execution tower/arena, which, while more dwarvenly, is really too inconvenient to be the only way of killing prisoners.

Maybe have an execution area that the animals would be released in if there was one designated, and otherwise do it on the spot.  Some way to do it without building cages first would also be good, so that you could just grab the caged animals from a stockpile without needing to wait for a hauler to set up the cage first.

Dwarfs should leave the creatures in there while the cage is resmelted. >:)

Yes. Clearly a bug that ought to be fixed in the future, but exploit it in the meantime.

I think they do.  I saw someone smelting a dwarf cage on the movie archive.  The dwarf escaped when it deconstructed and gave the furnace operator a black eye!
