Solution for peacetime/wartime:

Code: [Select]
___________________
_____   ]_[   _____
MAGMA\ WATER /

Whereby ] and [ are raising bridges that lower to cover up the water.

Couldn't flying building destroyers just break those bridges and continue right through?

Bwahaha! Yes, setting a pool directly above the magma does seem to work. Praise be to Science!

Important Science! Notes:
- I used a small pool of 4/7 water above 7/7 lava. Additional lava to the sides did not seem to matter for death rate, although I didn't test extra lava above the pit.
- Most small/medium size creatures won't show any symptoms until 10 seconds in, when they start melting, and will die 5 or 10 seconds later. You'll probably need a pretty long corridor.
- Large creatures partially melt, but seem to be, well, large enough to have enough blood to avoid dying from blood loss. You will get a nice puddle of fat, though.

It will be interesting to see if it still works in 31.04

So if I'm understanding this correctly:

Elevation view:
Code: [Select]

MMMMMMMMMMM

Would this effectively "boil" the water?  Does it evaporate at all or just stay hot?
being able to literally boil goblins sounds like a real scientific breakthrough.
