It's rather irritating and distracting, and taking up space without really having any significant purpose. Also when I use ctrl-f to look for something, the text it finds is hidden under the bar until I scroll down.

I am using firefox, and if I hit control f, the search bar pops up just fine over the page, and I can search for moohaha or whatever and search works fine.

It seems to get displayed over the text that Firefox regards as on-screen, so when FF scrolls down the page in order to show the next result, the line in question is behind the bar and therefore invisible.

It may be very cool and clever and innovative, but IMO it would be better to just put the information at the top or the bottom of the page (very Web 1.0, I know), as the bar reduces the visible space for the benefit of some infrequently-accessed links and information and gets in the way.

Huh. Was confused at first, then went to the wiki, and yep, there's an annoying and useless bar there.

The culprit is the line "position: fixed" in the #footer section of the stylesheet found here - or at least, removing that puts it back at the bottom of a page saved on my computer (your mileage may vary; I may be looking at the wrong thing entirely). The url used in the page source is rather longer, and contains more details, but that seems to be the same content.  According to the page history, it was changed sometime today by either Briess or Emi; bothering them about it is probably your best bet, though you could probably get something set up to fix it just for you if you're willing to mess around with local stylesheets and all that junk, as well as potentially creating issues with other websites who use the name footer in their stylesheets.

I already bothered Briess and Emi about it in another thread, and they don't seem like they want to fix it.  However, if you get the wonderful Firefox extension Adblock, there's an easy way to disable the footer without messing up other sites:

This doesn't actually hide the footer, it only fixes searching.
