Sounds to me like he melted.

There's a bug where temperature doesn't work right and rain or other water sources can become super-heated.  Then your dwarves fat melts off and they bleed to death.

Fixed in the next release according to the bug tracker.

Probably not...
the bug seems to have to do with the watr covering your body.
The water cover transfers the heat to your body or something similar.

If you drink there is no water cover generated on the outside ofyour body.
(if your dwarves go outside to drink while it rains however .... )

Dunno, donīt think anybody has tested it yet.

From my experience with a slightly hot region (where water coverings killed only my pets,
but not my dwarves) I would assume that this isnīt the case.
Goblins who fell into the moat I constructed around my fortress just drowned the normal way,
but didnīt get melted.

I think it's the drying out transition that does it; if the gobbos are in a moat, they never dry out.

This is why the dwarven microwave can work.

Hmm, so what if your main trap is a moat with a draining mechanism? I suppose that should work for boiled Goblins.
