Towers?
« on: April 29, 2010, 09:32:48 pm »

Hi, I'm new to the game and I am wondering if there is a way to mine down without using stairs. For example, I want to have a level of the fortress that is two z-levels high. Is this possible? Also if this is/is not possible, how does one go about making towers without doing this?

Channeling,
i.e. d-->h

it mines down to the next z-level (and in DF 0.31 creates a ramp, unless the tile on the lower z-level was already mined out)

And towers as well as other buildings do you get by building walls and the like
b-->C

By building stairs, floors and walls you can build your tower up one level after the other ;)

Only vaguely understanding your question here, but c[h]anneling  will give you a ramp leading down to the next z-level, instead of a staircase. There's also a designation for removing (dug out) staircases and ramps once you're done with them.

If you wanted to make a tower underground, thats essentially the way you would go about doing it; if you want to make a tower on top of existing ground, that is done by stacking constructed walls on top of each other.
