because my bronze colossus was cover head to toe in clothes weighing in over ~1000L and never wore a single shirt before retiring in a ruin town/elven retreat who only surviving member is a one eye camel demon.
the shocker was that the clothes are encrusted with loads of gems I suspect it was my jeweler I have recruited.
if they end up doing their old jobs then I should have recruited a doctor and a blacksmith for this rip apart limbs.

IIRC in previous versions your retired adventurers would conjure a trophy from thin air for each and every kill.  Kill 12 wolves and you might end up with 12 pieces of wolf bone jewelry.  I guess the current version is similar, only it includes decorations for existing clothing?

Does your colossus still have the tag that makes them loot nearby civs as NPCs?

Retired adventurers get free clothes from the civs they retire in. Simple as that. It only takes effect if you start another adventurer/fort first though.

Used this method to clothe naked minotaur adventurers (modded of course) in 40d.

No idea about the gems though, that's new. What have you killed?

well 6 demons a bunch of wolves and random wildlife and slap a "the title" hydra with loam didn't kill it that was my goblin von elfchildmurder with his sliver hammer. still I find it strange how I got clothes from a ex-town turn elven resort and the only person there is an one eye camel demon.

I know what happened. That town had a demon lord. When the elves took over the demon lord remained a citizen. The town was attacked, either by another demon who didn't attack the demon lord, or something else that couldn't kill the demon lord. The other creature killed every citizen of the resort.
