right now we can set stockpiles to only accept certain things. I would like to be able to make my garbage dump only accept certain items. This way i could have mulitpile dumps, for different waste. (i.e one for stone, one for corpses, one for clothing, etc.) This way we could have a dump next to the mason workshop, one next to the catapults, one next to the 500 traps, etc. It could shorten hauling distances, and greatly increase the productivity of workshops. And get rid of miasma when i dump gobbo corpses under the masonry workshop by accident.

Well, if the quantum stockpile effect is removed this would be unnessessary.

Why?  Because a GARBAGE DUMP is supposed to be for GARBAGE not stones intended to be turned into crafts.

Technically speaking, using dump-designated areas as quantum stockpiles is an exploit. That said, drop shafts to deliver goods don't seem too out of place. For what I hope gets implemented, see the slippery chutes thread; this makes for something simple to understand, realistic (considering this is fantasy), and possible without a complete re-write of the dwarves' AI (compared to the mine cart and so on ideas). For such an idea to work best, it would be essential to have stockpile-like controls for the drop-off end. By that order, this is a good suggestion.
