I don't remember who said it, but I remember reading that creatures can't intentionally target themselves with attacks.  So Urist McLonelyNutter would probably just sit alone until he went crazy.

...So now the question is, if attacked by a different creature or otherwise injured by an outside force and losing a body part, will a moody dwarf use their own part in a construction?

It should go: ...On the image there is an image of artifact x. On the image on an image there is an image of artifact x... And so on forever. Game-crashing fun!
