Hauling priorities
« on: October 27, 2007, 01:54:00 am »

Probably been suggested before: The option to be able to set the hauling priorities. Something like in the old settlers games. Then, i.e. when there's tons and tons of goblin junk, you can set the item hauling priority lower so your main activities don't suffer from all your dwarves (with item hauling active) storing them in a stockpile.

Yes, its been said many times before. But I'll say it yet again, we need some kind of hauling priority system set up.

My main issue, is food rotting in the trading post, because nobody will haul the stuff. They are always too busy napping, eating, hanging out, or hauling some useless bit of trash. So the food you traded all those crafts for, just gets chasmed.

But let some kobold die at the edge of the map, and everyone drops everything to run out to grab his junky clothes and stuff.

Just a bit ago, while playing the new version, with 7 dwarves set so their only active skill was hauling food, I ended up with 3 going to bed, 3 hanging out with "no job" in the dining room, and one still wrapped up in a fancy meal he was cooking. Nobody was going out to bring in the meat from the trading post. I had to tear down the post, to get them to start moving the stuff. Then they couldnt get out there fast enough!

We need some way to tell the dwarves that one job is more important than some other job.

I couldn't agree more on this one.  The number of times I've lost consumables because dwarves prefer doing something else....

I've just had this happen with some plump helments I was farming. Everyone raced out there to plant the damn things, but when it was time to pick them, everyone but the cook ignored them, and even then it was only because he was taking them straight into the kitchen to make biscuits.

Attempting to reproduce before I /bug it though.
:edit:
Everyone, including the guys with the Farming(Fields) ignored them, that is, and the "Everyone Harvests" order was set properly too.
