Forum problem.
« on: May 01, 2010, 12:13:33 am »

A good friend of mine seems to have been hit by an odd problem. The fourm since the upgrade looks like this.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

If anyone has any ideas. Or knows a way to get Chrome or IE to ignore text colors so everything is visible at least then please speak up.

Try Control-F5?
Might fix itself with that.

He's told me that doesn't help and he's tried refreshing.

He also had this to add.

Code: [Select]
12:51 AM - NewMars: when I try to get what the erorr is (it says this page has errors) it says:
12:51 AM - NewMars: Line:613
12:51 AM - NewMars: Char:5
12:51 AM - NewMars: Error: 'smc_toggle' is undefined
12:51 AM - NewMars: code:0

Hm... I don't think it's Chrome in and of itself, though, since I checked that browser recently on my comp and it was fine.  Maybe something to do with the machine/his connection, but I'm afraid I don't know so much from there on out.

How fast is newmar's internet? I used to get that thing before. Maybe he should try a new browser? Not something anyone wants to hear, but it might help.

Apparently switching browsers doesn't work for him. Though he does have a filter that might be blocking parts of the forum. So I don't even know if this is totally fixable.

A filter you say? Send him a copy of ultrasurf.exe. Makes IE bypass filters.
I'll see if I could find which proxy information to use for other browsers.

This only works on IE and Firefox. If this isn't the problem, he may have to reset his browser.

It seems to be blocking some of the javascript behind the pages then.

Not only that, but it is blocking it from getting anything other than the plain HTML.

No CSS.
No Images.
No Scripts.

Just the HTML.

I've had that happen to me on Firefox on a different website. Usually refreshing solves it.

I'm currently behind both Noscript and Adblock for firefox, with Noscript set to forbid anything it can forbid. The page loads as normal. I highly doubt the filter's doing anything. Also if it were the filter you'd see it on other pages as well.

Tell him to delete his entire web cache.  Supposedly Ctrl+F5 doesn't always do the trick.

That certainly explains where NME's been.
