Fortress Guard Patrol Route

Fortress guards need a patrol route. As it is currently, they are can't guard anything very effectively. I think it would be nice if once the guard is established that you could designate (from the squad menu) a patrol route for fortress guards.
Or better yet, instead of creating a route, you could set 'key locations' where guards who were not sparring would wait and meander near. (So you could designate the entrance hall of your fort, and if you had a couple of fortress guard members, there would always be one standing around there.
Forgive me if this has been suggested before. (It probably has)

On one hand, it would provide a use for the fortress guard.... on the other, the fortress guard is kind of designed to be useless... Hm... I kind of like my guards guarding the mead-hall.

I'd like if the fortress guard remained autonomous and sort of patrolled their own way, and went to attacks/thief attempts on their own.   This would leave your military freed up to do special ops and such.

But where would we stash our cripples?

Jokes aside, I agree with this as well. I am hoping all guard-types get a bit of an AI boost in the upcoming Army arc either way.

It would be only fair if the Captain of the Guard took care of these patrols becouse, even though he asks for guards, he never gets to give them orders. He should be the one to decide where to send Guards on patrol, when they should spar and what they should equip. After all, he should be the one to make mandates for weapons.

Right now, the Captain of the Guard is one of the most useless appointed nobles in the game. Most people don't appoint one so that useful workers don't get beaten/sent to jail after failing a mandate.
