Classification
« on: April 20, 2010, 03:29:22 am »

I'm sorry Toady, but I'm not sure that this game would receive a classification in Australia:

Heavy use of alcohol
Extreme violence
Infanticide
Extreme medical procedures.......

I don't think they want that kind of filth down here.

Who gives a crap? What are they going to do, block this site from every internet provider in Australia? :P

This game is a free game, the game maker takes basically no responsibility for what they put in the game (unless it is really nasty. Much, much more nasty then DF). After all, it's their fault that they played the game. ;)

Tarran has the "Tarran Bug", a bug which causes the affected character to repeatedly hit teammates while dual-wielding instead of whatever the hell he is shooting at.

Didn't both France and American (probably others too) attempt to make free software illegal at one point. Or they where lobbied to. Something like that.

Most tile/gfx sets probably come under the various copyright laws too as few of them say they are free to use :)

Wonder if that means I have used up my three strikes yet.

Um, yeah they will.  Are you aware of the Internet Censorship issues in Australia?

You do realize that the current regime in Australia basically does this to any site they don't like, right?

Let's pre-empt them. Start a petition here to ban the government of Australia!

See how they like being banned. Petition Armok to ban the Australian Government!

"Austrailian Government cancels play dwarf fortress, job item lost."
"Austrailian Government is stricken by melancholy!"

Whops, I just read up. Looks like they can block this site. ;D

But don't worry, it's likely years away. If it ever passes. Ignorance is bliss.

Hasn't the Aussie government also banned insufficiently large breasts in pornographic material?

I doubt they'd care since it isn't graphical in the slightest. :P

And if they do care, people need to make t-shirts sporting a pile of bodies brutally mutilated in DF ASCII.

2. . . .
 . . . 2 .
~~ . U .
. 2 . . .

With a message under it: These characters banned by the Aussie Government.

Edit: Wow, that actually would be an awesome t-shirt even w/o the message. Now I want one >_>

Agree, plus that's about the LAST thing *I* want to see from this kind of game - author spending valuable development time on useless graphics.

The fact that a game is banned in Australia should be an indicator of how good the game is...
Hmm, just thought of a new tagline for DF:  Dwarf Fortress: Banned in Australia

"Dwarf Fortress: So violent even Australia can't handle it."

Damn, that's... a whole kind of tough.
