Training an entirely new skill
« on: April 20, 2010, 11:17:08 pm »

Hi there,

Let's say I recruit a dwarf into the military (for example) and I want him to be an axedwarf, but he has no skill in it whatsoever - does he need to be trained by someone else before he can learn this? Or can he learn through his individual drill? It works for some professions (easy to make someone a Miner, for instance) but this doesn't seem to apply to military-based skills. Can anyone confirm?

Just specify that he needs to pick up an axe in the equipment submenu of the military menu, Sparrow. Also make sure you have an arsenal dwarf named, and have an office for him. He'll take a few, get equipment sorted out, then your guy will go get an axe (if you have a spare one) and begin "individual combat training" with it.

From there, he'll begin skilling up.
