Cave openess ?!
« on: April 19, 2010, 12:51:39 pm »

so her is my story:

if made a new world with cave openess 90-100. the other value was extremely low and ive raised water layers a bit.Now ive wanted to go down there and build. There are 3 strange things:
1. The first and second cavern are one big
2. they dont have any trees
3:the third is perfect: not too evil, trees like nether caps and so on, BUT it has got a real underground ocean. i mean its gigantic.
i really want to know why there arent any trees above^^

EDIT: uhh it has 35 underground z levels, and the 3rd cavern is on the same z level as the
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

well, sometimes, not everywhere. My fort is to levels above it, and my forges one level about.
I really like this place

Serpentine fried up in olivine oil and limonite juice?  Sounds gneiss.

Do want!

I've been trying to gen a world with less than 150 z-levels for ever. starting out with 40 FPS is not fun. :(

Which worlgen options effect z-level amount? I tried lowering cavern layers to two, but that had no effect  and neither did force bottom layer...

Maxing out openness, lowering passage density to 0, and increasing water to about 50-100 does this.

You tend to get large, open, flat caverns with lots of lakes, perfect for farming or building on.

but why arent there any trees?

I've noticed that more trees grow in as time goes by.  Usually it starts pretty bare.

New question! If I were to remove elves [INTELLIGENT] tag in the raws, would it work?

It creates maps similar to this: http://mkv25.net/dfma/poi-22781-grandviewofthefort.

Although I did remove some other layers to make this. I only have one cavern layer and not the bottom stuff.
