Arbitrary viewport size
« on: November 28, 2006, 12:24:00 am »

Someone's probably mentioned this already but an arbitrary viewport size would be nice since Toady's started tinkering with the rendering code. Like seeing 300x200 tiles all at the same time instead of just stretching the 80x24 tiles to whatever size..

This is suggested often.

The reason why it's not done is something to do with some assumptions hardcoded into the game and having to do with the current size of the viewport.  Not being at all a programmer, myself, the proper explanation is gibberish to me, but I do understand that it would be a lot of work.

Using curses It might be possible to use other character dimensions as was used on the old terminals. If I dont remember wrong there was 80x40 and 132x40 or something like that.

All of the 80x25 dependencies in the code need to be updated, though, which needs to be done manually.  Also, I'm not using curses, so it has to be done through opengl (which isn't really an issue).
