You know a button to equip a weapon so you don't have to drop it then pick it up.

^^^ That doesn't work if you're currently holding the weapon in the wrong hand.

This was actually considered an unfixed bug under the old bug system:

There is a favored hand in the game? Or it always the right one?

Yeah, all creatures that have both LEFT and RIGHT grasps seem to have a favored hand.  It's randomized and it seems to be 50/50 rather than 90/10.
