Renaming Buildings/Objects
« on: November 25, 2006, 09:48:00 pm »

I've come to build a row of levers that all connect to different things in the fortress, sort of a control center.  Well, there are times when I want to pull a lever in the middle and forget what it is connected to.  A simple renaming of the lever so I can tell what it's for just by hovering over it would be helpful.

So, instead of "Flint Lever", it might show "Front Drawbridge Lever".

Yeah, it would be good to rename buildings.  It would also help with workshop profiles.

Ultimately, seeing the lever links visually would be good, though there's something of a display problem there.

Perhaps have the bridge/floodgate/etc. controlled by the lever, flash green when the lever is selected?

That way you could see what the lever controlled pretty easily, and it doesn't seem too tough to implement...

Assuming you can see the object while the lever is selected...

(Most of my levers are not on the same screen as what they control - a nickname for the building would cover this situation though)

Yeah, I was worried more about the off-screen cases.  It could draw a flashing line, like the patrol lines, but that doesn't really tell you either.  It needs to display a custom name for the target as well and/or it needs to show a separate window maybe.
