How to designate in 3D?

I want designate up/down stairs very deep, but is tiring make z-level per z-level, how to do in 3D?

Click on the map with your mouse, and hold down shift + > or <. You can use this to designate many levels, but this only works one square at a time.

I usualy make a macro that digs 2-5 levels at a time.

Open the dig menu and position the cursor. ctrl-r, then dig a couple of levels. Ctrl-r again, ctrl-s. The use ctrl-l and ctrl-p to load and use the macro you created.

Start the macro with the cursor in place and don't close the dig at the end of the macro. That way you can just keep playing it to keep digging.
