Water baby....

Anyone else find it odd that they can swim faster than they walk?

Baby dwarves are born with a carp's tail instead of legs, which suddnely become proper, dwarf legs when they turn 12.

I am talking about in adventure mode, my human and dwarf adventures are both noticeably faster(once they are legendary) in the water than they are walking around on land.  Like 1605 land and 1865 in water.

IIRC, water speed and land speed are claculated somewhat differently, not too sure.

It seems to make sense that a truly legendary swimmer would be better at swimming than walking. This is a fantasy game, so some level of kookiness is to be expected.

I still think that the whole fortress should be flooded with magma the moment you try dividing by zero.
This could be a handy way of teaching preschool children mathematics.

Maybe your armor does not slow you down as much?

Yes but then the three children hanging off her will catch fire.
And that's stopped people before...?

It makes some bit of sense.
If someone has immense strength they will be able to swim significantly faster than their anatomy can ever possibly allow them to run. A creature with a maximum leg span of 1-1.5 meters could never take a longer step without jumping, which humans at least find to be horribly uncomfortable to sustain and I'd expect a much stockier dwarf to have an even harder time. Joints can only move so fast before things start to tear and cartilage has worn away (ending in arthritis and I doubt they'd be running much after that) but a swimmer with enough leg muscle and large hands/feet/fins could move themselves several meters, and quite quickly, with a single stroke, because they are sliding their entire body across a rather dense fluid.
