31.02: I embarked on my civilization's new outpost
« on: April 13, 2010, 12:16:58 pm »

I generated a pocket island and was pleased to see that the dwarven civilization was not only alive, but that they had also kicked the goblins into oblivion and out of this world.

In other words, there was a goblin outpost on the map, but it was marked in blue for a town of own dwarven civilization.

So, I embarked on it; well, I embarked mostly on it, because I wanted the nearby volcano on the map as well. I missed 3 out of the town's squares in exchange for the volcano.

Well. The thing is now that the queen lives in one of the three obsidian towers that the goblins left behind.

Also, several other dwarves, including two hammerdwarves are hanging around. The outpost liaison does not live in these obsidian towers, but he might be in the adjacent tiles of the outpost.

Had anyone else of you ever such an embark?

Am I in for interesting crashes, for instance when I hit the adamantinum and the queen decides to travel to this region (where she already is)?

Do friendly NPCs turn mad or starve to death after a while?

Can I get the local dwarves romantically involved with my own?

Should I settle in one of the obsidian towers with their arbitrary room setup, or rather make my own place, closer to the volcano?

Questions... questions.

I can't answer your questions, but I must say I'm interested in what's going to happen.

It honestly feels like a lot of their problems came from the fact that their entire team was composed of cats, and the people who were supposed to be herding them were also cats.

... so am I.  ;D

I noticed that the queen is wounded, but my doctor doesn't seem willing to do anything about it. So, since there are elephants on this map, I am going to protect her and will settle in her tower, sealing it off against elephants and maybe putting a roof over her head. She resides on top of the tower.

I think the NPC dwarves will act like caravan guards: they'll mostly ignore your dwarves but will chase invaders, etc.

My suggestion would be to backup your save, draft some dwarves and set a kill order on the Queen  ;D

Not sure what will happen if/when you do get the royal arrival... but a crash is unlikely I think.

The only time that I had a king in a fortress, he wasn't that bad, really. He just whined about the room quality of my original expedition leader, but he never caused any criminal activities by ordering mandates. That aside, he just did hang around with the giant flying jellyfishes and the cows; he did drag orks out of their cages into their pit at the archery range; and he loved to destroy constructions.

If that local resident was a baron or a tax collector or a hammerer, then I would go on a rampage indeed.

Take up residence in the tower. Flood the parts you aren't using with magma.
