Huge lag (Freezing, actually)
« on: April 12, 2010, 03:06:55 pm »

Hey there.

I've been building a fortress for 3 days now, without any problems..things are getting really fun, actually, I got magma as fuel for the first time ever, and all..

But since a hour ago, I was playing and suddenly HUEG lags started happening.
The game freezes for like 20+ seconds. This whole hour playing was the same as playing 10 minutes.
I thought on a lot of things, but I don't want to abandon this fortress..because I'm <attached> to it.

The problem is this:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I never found this kind of thing ever. I looked the coordinates, that things wants to take a warm lava-bath.
He is WAY down my volcano, like 170 levels from where I am.
I've got only 3 military dwarves. There's no way I can go there and handle this..I think

I'd appreciate any help, or comments on the situation. I don't know what to do  :-\

I'll try to make a stair down there, and I'll probably get a lot of fun for doing this.
But if it happens, I'm SO going to get a Legendary Wrestler on Adventure mode and take his head off.

It honestly feels like a lot of their problems came from the fact that their entire team was composed of cats, and the people who were supposed to be herding them were also cats.

You could edit his raw entries so that he isn't magma or heat resistant. That way, he'd be incinerated in seconds, and you can edit it back to the way it was before.

Hey, I'm cool with you tying a dog up and shooting it with a ballista if you're short on elves, but there's not need to lie about it to us.

Well, while digging deep underground I found some caverns (unpopulated, fortunately) and it suddenly stopped breaking my game.
It still gives some random, 2 sec freezes, but it's playable now.
When I get some more migrants (long time without imigrants btw), I'll go down there and fix this completely
:D

He probably can path to your dwarves now and thus no more lag. He's probably working his way up through the cavern system as we speak.

Prepare yourself. :D

As fun as that was to type, I have no idea. Also make sure you download the latest version, Toady fixed up some pathfinding bugs that were in the previous releases. I'm starting a new 2010 fort myself tomorrow as my old one keeps crashing 1 minute after loading even with the new version after about 10,000 "cannot find path" spam messages.

Hahaha I realized this, had some study-time now I'm going back to playing.
I also just download the new version and I'm gonna see what happens.
